Where are we heading?

This Sunday is the European Parliament election!

Which Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) do we want to pursue for the next five years? How important are access to clean water, protection from dangerous pesticides, the reduction of greenhouse gases and the labeling of genetically modified food to us? How about a policy which supports climate-friendly farming practices, animal welfare and sustainable food production? How about a policy which promotes education in sectors such as sustainable agriculture and traditional craft-based food production?

These topics will be greatly influenced by the results of the European Parliament election - which is the only directly democratically elected EU institution - on Sunday the 26th of May 2019.

Sometimes we might ask ourselves if our vote really makes a difference. Don't we affect change much more by the way we treat each other and our environment, by what we eat and consume in  general? Certainly our immediate influence lies in our everyday decisions. But if we don't support those parties, which actually do care about common environmental and consumer protection directives for a "grandchildren-friendly" Europe, we might just miss a good opportunity that, in hindsight, we would have rather taken. So let's exercise our rights and be part of the decision making process on Sunday!
