Together we create

The green deal

At the turning point of a dangerous situation

MOIN is a long-standing member of the AöL, the association of organic food. Together we are committed to good food and would like to contribute to more awareness for high-quality food. The further development of European law also plays a major role in this context, especially with regard to quality, transparency and environmental aspects.

Now we live in a time that unites us in great change worldwide, but at the same time separates us by closed borders. We feel - perhaps more than ever - that we need each other, that we are one world and that we shape this world with our individual behaviour. It is within our power to live according to our values and to stand up for change where we consider it necessary. The urgent need for sovereign humanity is omnipresent these days and therefore this situation also offers the chance for a profound change for the better – instead of back to „business as usual“.

No „business as usual“
CRISES AS TURNING POINTS FOR SOCIETY AND ECONOMY

Everyone is suddenly aware of the central importance of the food supply. Creating manageable, regional structures, exploiting the advantages of digitisation, assuming responsibility towards society: many of the changes in our behaviour and in our values that the Corona crisis is forcing us to make are an opportunity - also for overcoming the environmental crisis. Because global thinking and regional action are compatible.

It is clear that we have to put many issues to the test - from globalized supply chains and the consumer society, to the importance of science and the value of systemically relevant professions, to the question of how we think and live the economy. The way in which we reposition ourselves as a society and economy will be crucial.

For there must be no going back to "business as usual", but only a forward to a robust, green transformation. For this transformation, we must define a clear vision and implement it in many steps and milestones. One of these milestones is the European Commission's Green Deal. It can support a profound transformation of the European economy.

"Even if the Green Deal is an agreement for the economy, we citizens have to go along with it. In addition to sustainable business, we also need modern, sustainable lifestyles and changes in our consumer behaviour. Reflection on the essentials, as we are often experiencing these days, is a good recipe for a healthy, environmentally friendly and liveable future," summarises Dr. Alexander Beck, Managing Director of the Association of Organic Food Manufacturers (AöL), and is already pointing out options for action.

For the Greek word "crisis" alone does not describe a hopeless situation, but rather the turning point of a dangerous situation - potentially for the better. If we can find a new, measured way of living together in society and in our environment, in order to consciously take responsibility for the future as a community based on solidarity, we have a real chance for this transformation.

Background:

The European Commission's Green Deal calls for sustainable measures and can serve as a basis for independent, regional and resilient economic cycles. The Commission uses the deal to promote the idea of an economy and society in which economy and ecology work together. Growth at any price is not the goal. The deal leads to strategies and action plans with the economy and, hopefully, society, whose citizens, as political subjects, must take responsibility.
