Recycling hearts

Great taste in smaller bags

MOIN POWER...for less waste

Our delicious crusty rolls now come in 15% less packaging. This is the result of mechanical modifications to our packaging machine. And we are happy about that because saving plastic also helps!

Plastic waste is a big topic, which fortunately is becoming more and more popular with the public. Now, many people understand that the pollution of the seas and soils by microplastics is harmful to us and the environment. That is why we are also looking for good solutions and are very concerned with the issue of packaging. Again and again we consider what steps we can take to meet our ideas of sustainable management and our responsibility regarding a good future on this Earth for the generations to come.

What we do has to be packaged. We take care not to use mixed materials, but only 100% recyclable materials. This means that our boxes, which by the way are produced at our regional printing company Gebeke Verpackungen, and the plastic foils inside can easily be seperated and recycled appropriately. And if you take the time to peel off the label on the bags of our crusty rolls, they can be recycled without pre-sorting, as well.

We have done a lot of research and have come to the conclusion that our polypropylene film is the best available option on the market today. We do not think much of the so-called "bioplastics" for the following reason:

These frequently hyped materials are made from corn or potato starch produced in conventional agriculture with the help of pesticides and artificial fertilizers. What use is a bioplastic that is produced in an environmentally harmful way?  Not a good alternative! By the way, the Federal Environment Agency, BUND and NABU came to similar conclusions. If you like, you can find more information on their websites.

„Bioplastics not superior to common plastics“ (Federal Environment Agency)

„Alternative Bioplastik?“ (BUND)

„Bisher ist „Bioplastik“ leider eher eine Gewissensberuhigung und ein Marketinginstrument.“ (NABU)

We always try to find a good middle path, also with regard to packaging material and container sizes. The plastic reduction of our packaging also means that more bags fit into a box and consequently more goods are transported per truck. So we not only save on plastic, but also improve our carbon footprint. Step by step, we're getting there...
