european balcony

A moment of joint decision-making

Long live the

European Republic

"Europe exists to unite people, not to integrate states." But that is not what our current politicians are living. And if we're unhappy with something, then we have to change it. This is why we took part in the European Balcony Project. On the10th of November 2018 at 4 p.m. the European Republic was proclaimed from over 100 balconies and public places in Europe. This art project is based on a manifesto that you can read here stating the desire for a common European democracy. The EU has a common market and a common currency, but no common democracy. The EU's decisions are strongly influenced by the interests of individual nations rather than by the common interest of all European citizens. "We want a united Europe with cultural diversity and not nationalistic stubbornness," says Ulrike Guérot, founder of the European Democracy Lab, "We demand equal rights and opportunities for all European citizens." We want a united, democratic and citizen-centered Europe as well and that's why we stood on our "balcony" at MOIN, Hinterm Hofe 15 in Glückstadt. Perhaps you were standing on your balcony, too?
